Friction to Flow

Fill Your Cup First

Practical tips for peak performance without burnout

Fill Your Cup First

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.

We treat our phones better than ourselves; we plug them in when the battery is low. But we run ourselves to empty and wonder why our performance suffers. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s strategic.

One thing you could do this week to reduce friction and increase flow:

  • Individual’s Tip: Schedule 3 things that recharge you (walk, coffee with friend, reading). Put them in your calendar like important meetings. Don’t cancel them.
  • Team Leader Tip: Share one way you recharge with your team. Ask them to share theirs. Encourage everyone to actually do their recharge activities this week.
  • Executive Leader: Calculate the cost of burnout (sick days, turnover, mistakes). Compare to cost of wellness programs. Make the business case for self-care.
