Friction to Flow

Setting The Pace For Success

Practical tips for peak performance without burnout

Setting The Pace For Success

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

African Proverb

Speed feels productive but sustainability wins races. Solo sprints impress in the moment but team marathons build lasting success. The question isn’t “How fast?” but “How far do we need to go?”

One thing you could do this week to reduce friction and increase flow:

  • Individual’s Tip: Take one “rush” task and ask: “Does this need to be fast or good?” If good, involve others even if it’s slower.
  • Team Leader Tip: Reframe success metrics from speed to sustainability. Ask “Can we maintain this pace for months?” If not, slow down.
  • Executive Leader: Balance scorecards between quick wins and long-term capability building. Reward both sprints and marathons.
