Friction to Flow

Embrace the struggle that leads to success

Practical tips for peak performance without burnout

Practice persistence to achieve high performance

Peak performance is dependent on passion, grit, and persistence.

Talent gets you started, but grit gets you there. The ability to keep going when it’s hard, boring, or frustrating is what separates high performers from everyone else. Good news: grit is a practice, not a trait.

One thing you could do this week to reduce friction and increase flow:

  • Individual’s Tip: Pick one thing you’ve been avoiding. Commit to 15 minutes on it daily. Not perfect work, just persistent work. Small steps count.
  • Team Leader Tip: Share a story of when persistence paid off for you. Ask team members to share theirs. Create a “grit culture” through storytelling.
  • Executive Leader: Make persistence visible. Share stories of projects that took multiple attempts. Normalize the struggle as part of success.
